"According to a lawsuit filed yesterday in Manhattan Federal Court by music administators, Beyoncé allegedly never obtained proper clearance to cover a song called "I'm Kissing You," originally co-written by a singer named Des'ree -- famous for her 1994 smash hit, "You Gotta Be." Des'ree's version was used in Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film "Romeo and Juliet," Beyoncé's version can be found on the re-release of her album, "B'Day."In the lawsuit, Des'ree and her reps claim that Beyoncé, along with her record company people, originally tried to work out a deal to use the song. When they weren't satisfied with the proposed terms -- which included not being able to change the title or make a music video for the song -- Beyoncé allegedly blew off copyright law completely, and recorded the song and video without permission. The song was eventually released on Beyoncé's album, "B'Day - Deluxe Edition" on April 3, 2007, with the title "Still in Love (Kissing You)." Des'ree is suing to halt distribution of the song, video and album and seeking at least $150,000 in damages. " source TMZ
Well they (Beyonces) people have already halted distribution but the court date is still on.
I adore Des'ree and love that song to death. BUT..... The very idea of THAT song being covered by Beyonce confuses me to begin with and doing it without permission is unbelievably arrogant and rude. She should fire her management at once. I repeat Beyonce should lose her handlers before they let her walk into an erupting volcano... they actually let Beyonce say in public that the song wasnt meant to be on the album anyway. Yeah right... thats why you shot a video.
She should just apologise. Des'ree is obviously very upset about the disrespect. I mean $150,000.00 isnt an issue for B. Its saying I was wrong and Im sorry thats important.

Oh, Oh!! Came over from your comment on Mrs Somebody's blog. Will be watching to see how this saga unfolds.
That's the way to treat all these lil' thieves that claim they wrote all their songs, when we know full well, they didn't.
its beyonce's fault not the handlers. a veteran like beyonce should know better, a song writer of repute and experience should know better. she should own up to her responsibility.is beyonce a toddler[they let her say] doesnt she have a mind of her own? who pays who anyway, beyonce or the handlers?
