kidnappers kill 11yr old in PH

Recently an 11 yr old girl in Port Harcourt was shot dead by kidnappers who made off with her brother. Apparently she must have recognized one of the kidnappers and called out his name. The response was a bullet to her head. http://alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/LT182483.htm

I remember a couple of years ago when the first child was kidnapped in this endless Niger Delta nightmare. The girl with the British father. I remember people expressing outrage that child was taken. I remember the churches organizing prayers for little Margarets' safety with "big mens" wives on thier knees weeping. I remember the massive media blitz. I remember the NEVER AGAIN speak from authorities.
I remember thinking that we will soon get used to this. Its what Nigerians do well.

This time around the spotlight is dead. Moral compass directionless. Our outrage is directed at... well at nothing. Prayers are largely directed at annahilating enemies real or imagined. The news came to me via the back pages of the Sun.

When is enough? When do we shake the curse of getting cozy with insanity that masquerades as the virtue of resilience? It started with foreign oil workers (and the idiotic assurance that black skin was protection). Then Nigerians. Now abductions in schools, kidnapping octogenarians and aged parents clearly isnt enough.

Perhaps a bullet to the head of an 11yr old girl in broad daylight might do it.
Or not.

I pray her brother is found alive. His sister was shot in front of him. I cant...
May her soul rest in piece. May the greedy bastard close to the family who organized this rot in the most fiery reaches of hell.

obama cakes in my local bakery... in Calabar

Obama cakes!

The day after the inauguration of President Obama I went to my friendly neighbourhood bakery (High Quality Bakery) in Calabar and was accosted by American flags, decor and Obama cakes. In Calabar.

Did it feel weird? Nope. I bought one piece for my mom.

new year schmew year

I promised to hit 2009 running. Instead I resentfully polished off a report. I laze around worrying about what horrors the collapse of the naira and the global economy will spring upon us. I feel very frustrated about the lack of clear honest information unclouded by expertspeak gobbledegook. What does an average person in Nigeria do? Simple question. Any answers? Please?

If anyone throws that Merill Lynch Nigeria report at me I will do them grevious bodily harm.

Gaza, Jos, kidnappings....
